The History of Art

I have this morning off (first time all week) and it feels great, I didn’t get up at 5am for the first time since English. The weather is good and spirits are high. We are almost there. I have to say if what I studied doesn’t come up I will be quite literally screwed for this exam. I have left all my study for this until today. Predictions include Newgrange, impressionism and the gallery. So if they don’t come up, you know I’ve dug a hole and hid in it somewhere in the vicinity of my exam centre. Art is an important subject for me points wise. Art and Music have been my two best subjects through the years and hopefully it’ll work out that way for the leaving cert too. Art and Music are my only remaining subjects and I have 1 full week to study some melodic compositions and the ‘glorius’ Seachanges composed by Raymond Deane (not happy music). Anyone else I know is either sleeping or doing biology at the moment, I think it’s time I go study! Colin. Discuss Art History in the forum? How did Biology go?

French & History

I’m gobsmacked… these papers were simply wonderful, almost… enjoyable (not in real life). The French paper this morning had comprehensible comprehensions, although the questions were sometimes challenging. The “production ecrite” used straight forward language, I can’t imagine it being too troublesome for many. I was happy enough, my vocab and grammar was only satisfactory, not A1 material and the aural that followed wasn’t the hardest of the past papers but I managed to leave behind a few blanks.

After the aural, I had the opportunity to study for 1 hour and 10 minutes and used this wisely I did! I crammed in any predictions I had heard of and the paper was nice to me. Many others were a bit disappointed not see home rule, Parnell or Butt coming up; Hitler and Mussolini’s church relations was missing from the european section- may have been a shock too, I know it was for me, but overall the paper was very manageable. My time management was poor and my last essay question was rushed but I left school today a very happy scholar!

Guten morgen Deutschland and Fellow German-do’ers

Nein danke. So German starts on Friday. I have two days to do some preparation and I’m not quite sure what to focus on. Being a native German I already speak German, however, trying to get the rules of German grammar into my brain is impossible. I’ve had 2 different grinds teachers and a teacher attempt to teach me and all failed. It just wont go in! But the thing is, you could ask me a grammatical question and I’d be able to tell you because I know what sounds correct to me by nature

I am at a great advantage to a lot of students doing German on Friday. That I can’t deny. To me it will be my backup plan since Irish and Maths wont be providing me with any point-worthy results.

So put on your Lederhosen, eat up your bratwursts and get ready to sit yet another boring exam!

The History of France

I had the most unusual night last night. I was meant to study but after the long day I laid down for what was to be a 20 minutes rest but actually turned into 4 hours sleep! I was slow to get up and little study was done. A 5am job was in order for once again another late night/early morning. The sleep deprivation is really getting to me, I had the same dream twice last night which I woke up after, it was so lucid… in fact scary and only 2am! I woke automatically at 5am this morning, my body clock seems to be actually adjusting!

Today I will be taking the French and History papers. Am I nervous, yeah I must admit little. The French comprehensions vary so much from year to year and are sometimes simple but other times complex. I hope my grammar, spelling and vocab will be up to scratch, to be honest I won’t know this until I am in the exam as I have not practiced since the mock!

History will start just 70 minutes after French, the syllabus for history is huge, I mean 4 books. I am anxious, I have only learned what I have predicted to come up rather than centuries of oldness. If I am unlucky…

I’ll let you know how I get on,

Colin.

Dirty Business

Today finally brought that challenge I had been waiting for, after doing the notorious Irish paper 2 this morning, I sat down for an hour and studied. The fear was in me, I had never before done a business exam paper and my god had I not prepared for such an event. Failing to actually sit down and prepare my 8th subject, I entered the exam hall armed with nothing more than my logic.

The exam starts with short questions and I was given the easy task of recognising an ‘Intranpreneur’ in business. The short questions to follow would be those of not logic, they can only be described as ‘bookish’. I managed make my way through them whether false or wrong. What followed was a simple applied business question. It was here that I gained much of my marks, it was a very straightforward business question.

The last section wasn’t particularly complex either, I was given the chance to talk about the attributes of an entrepreneur, industrial relations and the labour court. In the last few weeks my little study of business included that of the “Break-Even Chart”. I had banked on this and there it was, what a splendid way to end the paper and open yet another evening of study!

History and French tomorrow, any predictions? please!?

Day 5 - Irish Paper 2 & Business Studies

After catching up on lost sleep, I awoke from a coma like state, with no time to do any revision. I printed off some notes from skoool.ie, knocked back my cup of tea and ran out the door.

As humiliating and all as it was, I was finished Irish Paper 2 after five minutes. Only then did it strike me that I hadn’t really done a tap of Irish for the past two years. While trying to figure out the basic meaning of the questions my frustration began to grow. I began writing about the oh so famous ‘Clare sa SpĂ©ir’ and ended up with about 4 lines in front of me. The main idea being that Eoin ate ‘ispini agus scealloga’. Highlight of his life. Best day of mine, or worst. I then looked over at a friend who was in the same boat as me and we made our way towards the exit.

I was nervous enough about the thought of the business paper. There was only five of us in the hall. Dead silence until the examiner cracked a joke. I ended up laughing to myself for a solid ten minutes. I have to say that I found the short questions harder than the ABQ or long questions. So I ended up writing down a load of waffle. Satisfied with the ABQ and long questions. I could of done with another half hour of writing, which was a bit of a perk after enduring a depressing Irish exam.

At least all the hard work is behind us now. Only half days from here on, for me at least. No more exams for me until Friday. So until then, I’ll be catching up on sleep and enjoying the sun!
